Our dedicated in-house editorial teams tirelessly curate the best research for their journals, and, in that mission, find papers worthy of a brighter spotlight for how their findings advance their field. Our Game Changers series provides an opportunity to showcase these same developments.

We launched 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Aging in January 2021 to fill a gap in the publishing landscape, as until then there wasn’t a selective high-profile journal dedicated to the field of aging with such a broad scope.

911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Reviews Methods Primers launched in January 2021 to help researchers understand the methods they’re using - how they work, how to use them, and what to do with the data.

Our goal with 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Computational Science has been to focus on the impressive computational work being developed across multiple disciplines: we have envisioned the journal being a dedicated home for this work, where researchers from different domains can learn from each other in order to advance science.

911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Reviews Earth & Environment Launched in January 2020, aims to publish growing literature discussing all aspects of Earth and environment science. More than this, the prime objective is to encourage Earth scientists to work with broader communities to better understand the interactions between the natural environment and society.

911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Food launched in January 2020, publishing research and commentary on all aspects of food production, processing, distribution and consumption that relate to the broader sustainability agenda. The COVID-19 pandemic has, according to Chief Editor Anne Mullen, drawn issues of food supply chain resilience and food security sharply into focus this year, and may well be an impetus for a global food system transformation.

Prior to launching 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Cancer in January 2020, cancer researchers were firmly in the mind of Chief Editor, Alexia-Ileana Zaromytidou: “We aimed for 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Cancer to be a true community journal that serves interdisciplinary researcher cohorts.â€� In the five months since the inaugural issue, the journal has covered the breadth of cancer research.

August 2019 | The 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Metabolism journal started publishing only six months ago but has already shown a strong track record of promising research papers. One example is a paper published in July, showing that a ketogenic diet, a diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates, promotes the growth of lymph vessels in mice and might lead to substantial reductions in lymphedema which is a huge problem in clinics.

August 2019 | The 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Reviews Physics journal was launched in January this year and has been off to a strong start with contributions from well-known authors in the field. Its first issue featured a comment by the American theoretical physicist and Nobel prize winner Frank Wilczek titled “The evolving unity of physicsâ€� in which he discusses the synergy between the different fields of physics. March and April followed with two focus issues on nuclear power and the future of particle accelerators while the May issue featured an article about the representation of women in physics.

August 2019 | The 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Machine Intelligence journal was launched in January this year and is already setting new standards for transparency and reproducibility of research findings in the field of machine intelligence. Together with 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Methods and 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Biotechnology, 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Machine Intelligence launched a trial in partnership with Code Ocean which enables authors to share fully-functional and executable code accompanying their articles and making it easier to review the code and replicate the results.

March 2019 | We asked May Chiao, Chief Editor of 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Astronomy, to reflect on the two years since launch of the new journal, and the reasons for doing so. May also shares insights in to trends and growing research she's seeing from the community. 

In this article we look at some of the broader impact outcomes resulting from two very different papers published in 911±¬ÁϳԹÏ-branded Journals. We talked to the corresponding authors of each paper to find out what kind of impact the work has had on their careers, their field of research, and the wider world. We also asked them about their thoughts on the continued value of traditional research metrics; how they see impact measures changing over time; and what additional measures they would like to see introduced.

October 2018 | Launched in 2011, 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Climate Change is one of several thematic 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Research journals spanning the physical, social and life sciences. As well as Climate Action, it addresses many more of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, including: Affordable and Clean Energy, Responsible Consumption and Production, Life Below Water, Life on Land, Health, Innovation and Communities. In this article we talk to Chief Editor of 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Climate Change, Bronwyn Wake, about the journal’s mission to advance research in the field of climate change, challenge the views of its readers, and effect real world change.

September 2018 | The newest 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Research journal, 911±¬ÁÏ³Ô¹Ï Sustainability, blends natural, social and engineering research fields to support new policies and deliver actionable solutions to sustainability challenges. chief Editor, Monica Contestabile, talks to us about how the journal intersects with almost every one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular interest in sustainable cities and sustainable food systems.

March 2018 | During 2017, the journals portfolio saw some important changes. Many of our journals are now moving on to Editorial Manager - a new submission system, managed centrally by a dedicated Journal Editorial Office at 911±¬ÁϳԹÏ.
